Freddie Freeman 2024 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Potent LA Lineup Leads To Seventh Straight Top-10 MVP Finish
12 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers' first baseman, Freddie Freeman, heads into the 2024 season at the age of 34, which may give some fantasy managers pause, considering where he's being drafted. Still, with the addition of Shohei Ohtani, he finds himself in an even more fantasy-friendly environment than in 2023, a season in which he finished third in NL MVP voting. In 2023, he had career highs in hits (211), runs (131), stolen bases (23), and WOBA (.411); if not for the 60-game 2020 season, he would have also had career marks in batting average (.331), OBP (.410), and wRC+ (163). A 2.2% uptick in K% in 2023, along with a 2.0% downtick in BB%, as well as a 1.3 mph drop in average EV and a 1.7 mph drop in Max EV, is something to keep an eye on for 2025 in case it becomes the beginning of a downward trend, but not cause for concern in 2024. Current NFBC ADP data suggests he's going around ninth overall, which is fair given the higher HR and SB upside potential for the hitters ahead of him, but just in front of Trea Turner (will have more SB than Freeman, lower counting stats otherwise) and Aaron Judge (will have fewer SB, poor injury history). Expect some regression for Freeman regarding runs and stolen bases, but higher RBI totals than in 2023. FGDC projections have him with a line of .302-26-98-103-13, a .381 WOBA, and 143 wRC+. Even if, in retrospect, 2023 turns out to be the final peak of his illustrious career, and 2024 is not quite as statistically bountiful as 2023, an A-minus Freddie Freeman season likely still puts him in the MVP conversation again.
