Fernando Rodney Set To Serve As Twins' Closer
7 years agoThe Minnesota Twins signed veteran reliever Fernando Rodney to be their closer for the upcoming 2018 season. Rodney served the same role for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017, converting 39-of-45 save chances while posting a 4.23 ERA and striking out 10.57 batters per nine innings. Rodney, while he has topped 25 saves in five of the past six seasons, has also struggled to keep his ERA down, partially due to him averaging 4.43 walks per nine innings over his career. You have to go back to the 2014 season to see the last time he finished with a sub-3.00 ERA. The Twins also signed former closer Addison Reed to bolster their bullpen. Reed will open the year as the team's setup man but Rodney could be just a few blown saves away from losing his ninth-inning duties. Rodney is worth a look at the end of drafts as a cheap source of saves but don't invest too much capital into procuring him for your fantasy squad.
