Eugenio Suarez Looks To Build On 2017 Breakout
7 years agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez continued his three-year trend of showing marked improvement at the plate in 2017. The 26-year-old infielder finished the season with a .260/.367/.461 slash line to go along with 26 homers, 87 runs, and 86 RBI while appearing in 156 games for the Reds. Suarez showed an improved eye at the plate in 2017 as he raised his walk rate 5.2% from the 2016 season while cutting down on his strikeout rate by 1.4%. The improved plate discipline certainly helped as Suarez established career highs in homers, RBI, and runs scored this past season. The young third baseman plays his home games in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark, which should help him continue to improve his numbers. If he continues his upward arc, a 30-homer, 100-run, 100-RBI season isn't out of the question for Suarez.
