Ervin Santana A Solid Back-End Fantasy Starter
7 years agoIn 2017, Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Ervin Santana turned in one of the better seasons of his 13-year MLB career. The veteran right-hander finished the season with a 16-8 record, 3.28 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 167 strikeouts in 211 1/3 innings of work. While Santana's final stat line is impressive, it is worth noting that he did enjoy some good luck in the batted ball department in 2017. Santana allowed just a .245 BABIP to opposing batters in 2017, well below his career mark of .282, while also stranding a very high 79.5% of baserunners. The good fortune that Santana had certainly helped lead to him posting the second-lowest ERA of his career despite having a SIERA of 4.60. That being said, Santana still has his merits as a back-end fantasy pitcher. He's been extremely durable over his career and should be back out there every fifth day to eat innings for the Twins. He's worth a look as a starting fantasy pitcher, especially in deeper formats.
