Eli Manning 2019 Outlook: Is It The End Of The Line For Eli?
6 years agoThe New York Giants have finally put in place a succession plan for the quarterback position, spending an early first round pick on Duke’s Daniel Jones in this year’s NFL Draft. That leaves veteran starter Eli Manning in a tough spot, as his age-related regression and Jones’ presence on the roster have put his NFL future in doubt. Manning should start the 2019 season as the Giants starter and could very well hold onto the job through the end of the year, but his numbers last year — 4399 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions — suggest that Manning’s ceiling at this point is as a fantasy QB2. There’s no real reason to roster Manning at this point, and while you may be tempted to use him as a bye week fill-in if the Giants have a good matchup, the chance that he loses his starting job during the season means that you shouldn’t be planning ahead for that. The only place Manning might have value is in two-QB leagues, where his consistency would make him a streamable option as long as he holds onto the starting job. Manning is unlikely to be one of the worst fantasy options at the quarterback position on a week-to-week basis, so owners in that situation can find some appeal. But in standard-sized fantasy leagues with one starting quarterback spot? Look elsewhere.
