Elfrid Payton 2018-19 Player Outlook
6 years agoNew Orleans Pelicans point guard Elfrid Payton is in a position to put together a solid first year if he is given the starting point guard spot. There have been talks of running Payton in the same role that Rajon Rondo was in last year, but Rondo had a better track record coming and seemed like a better fit on paper. Payton put together some decent numbers last season before being dealt to Phoenix (13.0 points, 6.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals a night), but saw most of those numbers take a dip for the Suns. He is still a point guard that is unable to knock down the three and struggles at times to take care of the ball (2.7 turnovers in just 28.7 minutes last season). In reality, this is the season that Payton needs more than any other thus far in his career to prove that he belongs in the upper tear of point guards, the question is, will he come through?
