Edwin Diaz Provides Excellent Closer Value
7 years agoSeattle Mariners right-handed close Edwin Diaz converted 34-of-39 saves last season, striking out 89 hitters in only 66 innings while posting an ERA of 3.27. In his first season in the role, Diaz shrugged off some early home run issues to settle into the closer spot nicely. Diaz certainly has electric stuff and could see his numbers improve with an improved Mariners offense. After serving up eight home runs in his first 35 2/3 innings pitched he rebounded by allowing only two in his final 30 1/3 innings while striking out 41. Diaz will be in position to build up his fantasy equity in 2018 and another losing season by the Mariners could put Diaz on the mid-season trading block. That possibility makes Diaz a fantasy asset worth investing in especially if his chance rate spikes in August if he gets dealt to a contender.
