Drew Brees 2020 Outlook: Still Plenty Left In The Tank
5 years agoNew Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees missed five games due to a thumb injury last season, but when on the field, he was highly effective. Brees averaged the seventh-most fantasy points per game among quarterbacks last season. His arm strength isn’t what it used to be, but his 271 average passing yards per game was still ninth-best in the NFL. He’s also become more efficient. Brees’ 1.2 three-year interception rate is well below his 2.3 career rate, adding to his value in fantasy leagues that deduct points for interceptions. He has impressive weapons to target in Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jared Cook, and the luxury of utilizing RB Alvin Kamara in the passing game. Kamara and Latavius Murray spearhead a potent rushing attack that will cause defenses to avoid solely focusing on the Saints’ passing game. Brees is being drafted as a late tier top-12 fantasy quarterback this preseason, which is fair. He’s no longer elite, but fantasy players selecting Brees late in drafts should receive a solid return on their investment. Brees is a youthful 41-year-old who keeps himself in great shape and is motivated to win another Super Bowl. Brees was on pace to throw for over 4,300 yards and close to 40 TDs last season and should be able to replicate that level of production again this season.
