DK Metcalf 2023 Outlook: Increased Target Competition in the form of JSN
2 years agoAccording to the Mojo Market (the sports stock market), DK Metcalf's stock fell 3.5% when the Seahawks selected Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the 20th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Not a huge dip, but enough of one to take notice. Seattle felt compelled to take the first receiver off the board despite Metcalf and Tyler Lockett being a premier receiver tandem in the league. Last season, Metcalf set career highs in targets and receptions but also set career lows in yards per target, yards per catch, and touchdowns. With Smith-Njigba operating underneath and from the slot, DK should be able to get downfield more in 2023 than he did in 2022. That could result in more yardage, but it also likely results in fewer targets for Metcalf. He has the look and feel of a mid-range WR2 in 2023 and could be better in non-PPR formats due to the likely decrease in target share with JSN in town.
