DK Metcalf 2020 Outlook: Ready To Shoot Up The Fantasy WR Ladder
5 years agoDK Metcalf finished as the fourth most productive rookie WR in fantasy football in 2019. Entering his new season, though, no other second-year wideout may have more upside. Many questioned Metcalf’s techniques, including his route running, entering the pros. But he landed in ideal situation in Seattle with Russell Wilson, who is a premier deep thrower and needed a target with Metcalf’s size/speed blend of abilities. Metcalf averaged 15.5 yards per catch and caught seven TD passes. He had 10 double figure PPR performances in his first pro campaign. He had five games of six receptions in his final eight outings. His true breakthrough game came in the NFC Wild Card Game against Philadelphia. In a record-setting performance for a rookie, Metcalf caught seven balls for 160 yards and scored on a 53-yard TD reception. Metcalf had difficulty winning contested catches for most of the regular season, but by playoff time, he had evolved more as an all-around WR. As a unique 6-4, 229 pounder with impressive speed (his 4.33 40-yard dash at the combine stirred some buzz) and a top QB as his partner, Metcalf has significant starting fantasy WR appeal for 2020. Seeing him go over 70 catches and 1,050 yards and score eight or more times would not be surprising. His ADP of 48 shows that many fantasy players already realize that Metcalf is on the verge of stardom.
