DJ LeMahieu Emerges From Cold Spell With Homer
4 months agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and a double to help the team beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 in extra innings on Saturday. The 34-year-old was hitting just .133 (4-for-30) with a lone RBI and no extra-base knocks over his last eight games before going deep in this one. That lack of power is not exactly characteristic of a typical cleanup batter, a role which LeMahieu has been handling regularly for the last month. Expect the contact hitter's spot in the lineup to alter in some way once slugger Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) comes off the injured list. LeMahieu admittedly owns a healthy 49.2% hard-hit rate overall, but at the cost of striking out (26.3% rate) more than he ever has in his career.
