DJ Chark Jr. 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Low Risk WR For Potential Upside In Weak WR Depth Chart
2 years agoThe Carolina Panthers offense will look completely different in 2023 as they debut a new starting quarterback, running back, two wide receivers, and tight end. One of those wide receivers is DJ Chark Jr. (ankle), who signed a one-year deal with Carolina. He has been limited to 15 games over the last two seasons due to ankle injuries. The 26-year-old is recovering from an offseason cleanup procedure on his ankle but participated in team drills during OTAs. Chark finished with 30 receptions, 502 yards, and three touchdowns over the 11 games he played with the Lions. While the statistics don't look enticing, his downfield ability was showcased by his 15.4 depth of target - fourth in the league. Veteran WR Adam Thielen was brought in as a possession receiver, and Terrace Marshall Jr. looks to take his next step. The Panthers also selected Ole Miss wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He will be competing with Thielen, Marshall, and Mingo for targets in Carolina's passing game. Still, there is certainly an opportunity for Chark to form a connection with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, quarterback Bryce Young. The 27-year-old is at an FFPC ADP of 203.08 and is ranked 157th overall in the latest RotoBaller rankings. The upside Chark has shown in the past seems worth a flier in best ball and dynasty drafts, while he projects as a WR4-5 for PPR & standard leagues.
