Didi Gregorius Could Be A Top-10 Shortstop
7 years agoIn his third year as Derek Jeter’s successor with the New York Yankees, shortstop Didi Gregorius had the finest season of his career. The 27-year-old hit .287 with 25 home runs and 87 RBI, all career highs. He also managed to bring his K% down to 12.3, another career best. Another area in which Gregorius improved was his road hitting, slashing .321/.354/.528 away from the Bronx. One very important thing to consider if he’s on your fantasy radar is his positioning in the team lineup. The Dutch native saw plenty of action in the cleanup spot, setting him up for all his aforementioned career highs. Considering Giancarlo Stanton has arrived with the Yankees, it seems highly unlikely that Gregorius will retain that position looking ahead to 2018. His HR/FB ratio seems unlikely to remain at last season’s career-high 12.1%. In short, it could very well be that last year’s statistics were an anomaly for Gregorius. By no mean, however, should this mean he won’t be a really good fantasy shortstop this upcoming season. 20 home runs and a batting average in the .270s should come to be expected at this point. Our experts currently have him projected to go around the 110th pick.
