DeVante Parker 2021 Outlook: Challengers to the Dolphin Throne
4 years agoFor the past two seasons, DeVante Parker has been the unquestioned alpha in the Dolphins' passing attack. He's led the team in targets back-to-back seasons. His breakout 2019 campaign led to him inevitably being overvalued in 2020 drafts. Parker finished as the WR39 last season, experiencing a significant drop in efficiency as his yards per target went from 9.4 to 7.7. With Tua Tagovailoa a clear downgrade from Ryan Fitzpatrick from a fantasy perspective, Parker entered 2021 as a WR3, at best. Then, the Dolphins signed Will Fuller away from Houston and spent the sixth overall pick on Jaylen Waddle. Suddenly, there are two more very strong options in the passing game for Parker to contend with. Even though Parker flopped in 2020, there was zero doubt he was going to lead the team in targets. Entering this season, he is still the favorite, but it would not be a shock if he fell to second or even third. The only silver lining is Parker's price tag reflects all of this. The problem is he was only a WR4 last season without all the target competition. He's properly priced as a WR4 this season, but I just don't see much upside for the 28-year-old former first rounder who has had one good season in his six-year career. If Parker is your WR5 at a value, that's fine, but I'm looking elsewhere for more upside at his usual cost.
