Derek Carr 2024 Outlook: Not A Reliable Option In Most Leagues
7 months agoNew Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is an unappealing option in most fantasy football leagues, especially those in which managers can only start one signal-caller. Carr has finished between QB12 and QB20 in each of his 10 NFL seasons, but he continues to trend in the wrong direction ahead of his second campaign with the Saints. He totaled 3,878 yards (his second-lowest mark since 2017) with 25 touchdowns and just eight interceptions last year, but he also took 31 sacks and lost three fumbles. Worst of all, he registered a career-low 40 rushing yards. Quarterbacks who run the ball often produce the most fantasy quarterbacks, and while nobody expects Carr to run wild, it would have been nice to see him demonstrate a little more mobility last year. From a fantasy perspective, his inability to run the ball will restrict him from extending plays and avoiding sacks. It's also fair to have concerns about the weapons surrounding Carr. His top receiver, Chris Olave, failed to make the leap many expected in his second pro season last year. Rashid Shaheed is a fine No. 2 wide receiver, but A.T. Perry operating out wide leaves a lot to be desired. Juwan Johnson isn't a reliable contributor at tight end, Taysom Hill leaves more of an impact on the ground than through the air, and both Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams are getting older. Carr is a fine veteran presence, but he lacks real fantasy appeal. He should be avoided in most single-QB leagues, which has been the case so far. He currently sports an ADP of 177, ranking 25th among passers.
