Derek Carr 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Productive Offense, But Touchdowns Could Be Limited
2 years agoThe Davante Adams acquisition did not live up to the hype for quarterback Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders last year. Though Adams continued dominating fantasy football, Carr struggled to be more relevant than in his previous years. The 32-year-old was benched for the final two games after posting the lowest quarterback rating of his career (86.3) since his rookie season. New Orleans signed Carr to a four-year, $150 million contract after the Raiders released him during the offseason. A receiving corps headlined by second-year stud Chris Olave and oft-injured Michael Thomas provides the veteran gunslinger with adequate targets. Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams form a daunting running back duo, which may cap Carr's fantasy relevance. Both backs are known for their red zone efficiency. Carr has only hit 30 pass touchdowns in a season once in his nine-year career, and it's unlikely he will eclipse that mark with touchdown vultures by his side. New Orleans' offense had moments of greatness with Andy Dalton at the helm last year. They will be a strong unit with Carr in command. Currently, he's going as the QB18, which is on par with expectations in 2023.
