Davis Mills 2022 Outlook: Growing Pains May Continue
2 years agoQuarterback Davis Mills performed admirably as the starter of the Houston Texans in 2021. The rookie QB was thrust into playing time after starter Tyrod Taylor got injured early in the season. From there on out, it was Mills running the offense for the majority of the season on a team devoid of talent. The youngster piled up a modest 2,664 yards passing with 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions on 66.8 percent passing completion. The QB also added 44 yards on the ground and finished as QB29 on the season. There were moments where the QB showed potential, such as a few 300-yard games, but overall he was wildly inconsistent in his weekly numbers. Heading into the 2022 offseason, many thought the Texans could add a QB to bolster the team, but Houston stayed put, showing its faith in Mills. Now entering his second year, Mills will look to build on his rookie campaign, though he may deal with continued growing pains as he is still 23-years-old and adjusting to the NFL. In addition, Houston didn't do much to bolster its receiving corps, only returning Brandin Cooks as a legitimate passing-game option. Having a lack of talent at receiver certainly won't help a growing QB. Given his inexperience, this young QB shouldn't be considered a strong fantasy option heading into 2022 and should only be looked at as a streaming option in favorable matchups or a QB to stash on your team as depth.
