David Price Could Provide Significant Value
7 years agoDavid Price has consistently been a steadfast pitcher for any fantasy team. 2017 was only the second time in the last eight years that Price failed to throw 200 innings in a season. Considering Price is already 32 years old, it would not surprise anyone to see injury concerns arise and performance decline. While most of 2017 was spent on the disabled list, Price did have some success when he was pitching. He had 3.91 earned run average in the first half and in his 21 innings in the second half had a 2.08 ERA. Price did have only 42.7% of his pitches in the strike zone, down five percent from 2016. However, his first pitch strikes increased to 67.5% and he maintained 11.7% swinging strikes. Price’s overall stats still resemble those of the past couple of years. The main question will be his overall health this season. He finished 2017 in the bullpen, giving him RP eligibility, but with an offseason of rest and rehabilitation he should start the season in the rotation. If he can be acquired in the 10th round, he can be a tremendous value if he stays on the mound the whole season. If your dynasty league is competing this year, try to acquire him cheap citing amount of usage and injury concerns. If your team is rebuilding, try to obtain value in a trade marketing his reliability.
