Darwin Thompson 2020 Outlook: Derailed Hype Train Still Under Maintenance
5 years agoKansas City Chiefs sophomore running back Darwin Thompson let a lot of fantasy owners down last season. He burst onto the scene last preseason and had owners convinced that he was the next superstar running back for head coach Andy Reid. Unfortunately, it did not play out that way. The small bruiser out of Utah State was the most popular late-round flier last draft season, and he finished as RB88 with 46 total touches and one touchdown. This year, the Chiefs drafted LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round of the NFL Draft. The move is a dagger to Thompson’s future fantasy potential as Edwards-Helaire is the perfect running back for Andy Reid’s system. You could say he was the natural selection for the Chiefs (get it?). The team also still has presumed starter Damien Williams and signed DeAndre Washington as a free agent to compete with junior running back Darrell Williams. As a result, Thompson will probably not see the field very often and will likely be used mainly as a special teams player. His ADP currently sits at RB70, which is fair because he should not be drafted as anything more than a lottery ticket insurance piece for Edwards-Helaire or Damien Williams.
