Danny Salazar Looks to Rebound From an Up-and-Down 2017
7 years agoCleveland Indians pitcher Danny Salazar will enter 2018 hoping for more consistency. He struggled at times in 2017, even being demoted to the bullpen and to the minors at different points. Overall for the season, Salazar started 19 games and appeared as a reliever in four. He totaled 103 innings, posting a 4.28 ERA and a 5-6 record. Despite the struggles and the overall pedestrian numbers, Salazar's advanced metrics show potential for improvement in 2018. He posted the highest strikeout rate of his career (12.67 K/9) by a significant margin and lowered his walk rate from the previous season. Despite the 4.28 ERA, his FIP and xFIP were 3.48 and 3.21, respectively. Salazar certainly had struggles last season, but some of them can legitimately be attributed to bad luck. He's expected to get a chance to start in 2018, but will likely open the 2018 season on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Salazar has the potential to be a nice sleeper of sorts in deeper fantasy leagues, but needs to get healthy and find a rotation spot.
