Curtis Samuel 2022 Outlook - Some Upside As Late-Round Bounce-back Candidate
3 years agoCurtis Samuel is coming off an injury-plagued 2021 season where he was able to suit up in five games, which ended up in him seeing just nine targets. The former Carolina Panther finished as the WR25 in the 2020 season where he totaled 77 receptions for 853 yards and 41 carries for 200 yards while adding five total touchdowns. This was all while competing for targets with D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson in a Teddy Bridgewater-led offense. Going into the 2022 season, Samuel is fully healthy and will likely slot in as the WR2 behind Terry McLaurin, with first-round pick Jahan Dotson also competing for targets. Offensive Coordinator Scott Turner has mentioned that Samuel "can play everywhere in the offense," so it will be interesting to see if the speedy wide receiver can get similar usage to his time in Carolina. It is hard to envision him repeating a season with 41 carries, considering the likes of Antonio Gibson, Brian Robinson Jr., and J.D. McKissic in the Washington backfield, but he has a legitimate chance to be the second option in the passing attack. In what should be improved quarterback play with Carson Wentz under center, Samuel makes for an interesting late-round dart throw as a potential bounce-back candidate.
