Cristian Pache 2020 Outlook: Poised for a 2020 Breakout
5 years agoIf you’re scouting just the stat line and not viewing the raw athletic ability or not looking at year-over-year trends then you might be surprised to see Cristian Pache listed as a top prospect for 2020. Not every player is Fernando Tatis Jr. with physical maturity at a young age and Pache has had to grow into his body and man-strength while playing at a high level. He just turned 21 in November but spent the majority of the year in Double-A. He also received a 26-game trial in Triple-A at the end of the minor league season. Despite constantly being one of the youngest players in each league, Pache has a .283 career batting average. He has above-average raw power and is just now starting to tap into it more consistently. After not hitting a home run in his first two seasons, he’s now seen his power increase year-over-year in terms of both home runs (nine in 2018, 12 in 2019) and doubles (23 to 36). And minor league doubles are a good indicator of future home-run power. Pache also has above-average speed but isn’t great at reading pitchers. With a little more seasoning in Triple-A, this young outfielder could be ready to contribute in Atlanta before the summer hits.
