Clyde Edwards-Helaire 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Stock Plummeting While Buried On Depth Chart
1 year agoKansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire started 2022 with a few encouraging performances, averaging 15 half-PPR points in the first four weeks before losing touches to rookie Isiah Pacheco (hand, shoulder) and journeyman Jerick McKinnon. The former first-rounder's season ended in Week 11 after suffering a high-ankle sprain. However, it appears he had already been largely written out of the Chiefs’ offensive game-planning by then. In the two weeks following Kansas City's Week 8 bye, he averaged two rushing attempts and two targets per game and finished with a career-low 71 carries for 302 yards and three TDs in only 10 games played in the regular season. He was also a healthy scratch in Super Bowl LVIII. Kansas City's offseason decisions to re-sign McKinnon and decline CEH's fifth-year option do not bode well for him in 2023, especially with Pacheco developing nicely. Pacheco might not be ready for training camp after undergoing surgery on a broken hand and torn labrum during the offseason. Edwards-Helaire is expected to see most of the reps in training camp until Pacheco is available. CEH is still only 24 and would have fantasy value if the rest of the Chiefs backfield were to miss time, but he should go undrafted this fall in all but the deepest fantasy leagues.
