Cleveland Browns D/ST 2019 Outlook: Return of the Dawg Pound
6 years agoMiles Garrett and Denzell Ward made a formidable defensive pair in 2018 and now the Browns add Sheldon Richardson to the mix. While this may not seem like a massive addition, he is a good player at a position of need. If he has his head on right and performs as he can, this could bring the Browns defense to yet another level.
In the 2019 draft, the Browns also added Greedy Williams from LSU, a player many felt was the number one cornerback in the class. Add him to Ward and you could have one of the best secondaries in the NFL in a few seasons.
The biggest issue for the Cleveland defense could be the Cleveland offense. They are going to be explosive. This means unless they can sustain drives by using the run as well as the pass the defense may get tired. No defense can be good if they are on the field more than the offense. This goes for any defense, whether it be the 1985 Bears or the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. As long as the offense does its job, the defense will be good enough to do theirs.
Obviously, when it comes to draft position, defenses should only be picked in the final two rounds of a draft along with kickers. However, if you are in this position and you want a young defense who can dominate in games, then the Browns are in consideration for a top-10 defensive selection.
