Christian McCaffrey 2019 Outlook: Making A Case For Top Overall Pick
6 years agoIn 2018, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey became just the third player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards, while also catching 100 passes. He finished Top 6 in rushing with 1,098 yards, and Top 8 in receptions with 107, which was also an NFL single-season record for a running back. At just 23 years old, and entering his third year in the league, the Stanford product has developed into one of the league’s elite playmakers. Head coach Ron Rivera told media in training camp that the team might cut back on his snaps but will not cut his touches, so there is no question about McCaffrey being a focal point of the offense. Reaching the rare 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving is very possible in 2019. Carolina has also shown commitment to using CMC in the red zone (11 of his 13 touchdowns, in 2018, came from inside the 20 yard line), so he won’t be cheated of high-percentage opportunities. While the Panthers drafted running back Jordan Scarlett from Florida and re-signed Cameron Artis-Payne, neither of them will take time away from McCaffrey, as long as he is healthy. CMC deserves discussion as the number one overall pick, especially in PPR leagues, and he will once again be in a position to dominate the fantasy landscape.
