Chris Olave 2022 Outlook: Rookie WR To Compete With Veterans For Targets In 2022
3 years agoThe 2021 New Orleans Saints fielded arguably one of the worst receiver corps in the league, with no player reaching the 700-yard barrier for the year. Star wide receiver Michael Thomas missed the entire season while recovering from an injury sustained at the end of the 2020 season. The team made a clear effort to upgrade at the position in the offseason, beginning by drafting former Ohio State standout wide receiver Chris Olave. Considered by many scouts as the most pro-ready receiver in the draft, Olave will have plenty of competition for targets in a suddenly stacked Saints receiver room. The team also added veteran free agent Jarvis Landry this offseason. Thomas and Landry play similar roles, possession receivers who do most of their damage in the short-yardage passing game. The attention that those two will command along with star running back Alvin Kamara should open up the field for big playmakers. Olave certainly fits that description, averaging over 15 yards per reception in college while grabbing 32 touchdowns in his final three seasons in Columbus. With quarterback Jameis Winston's propensity for throwing the ball down the field, Olave could step in and provide immediate production. He is a much-coveted dynasty asset with the team likely to move on from Thomas' contract after this season. But with an ADP of WR47 in PPR leagues, Olave could provide value as a weekly flex option and offers tremendous value in best-ball leagues with the chance for blow-up games with Winston slinging it downfield.
