Chris Evans 2022 NFL Player Outlook: The Late Handcuff No One is Seeing?
2 years agoIt's no secret the Cincinnati Bengals have been looking for a reliable backup to running back Joe Mixon. They have even discussed limiting Mixon's third-down usage, as evidenced by the final series in the Super Bowl against the Rams, where Perine was out there instead of Mixon. Chris Evans was drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and showed promise in limited touches for the Bengals last year. The 24-year-old rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries while catching 15 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns over 14 games. Despite having his college career at Michigan cut short, Evans averaged 5.1 yards per carry and 9.8 yards per reception in college. While Samaje Perine is listed ahead of him on the depth chart, some expect Evans to make a splash and overtake him during training camp. According to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, Evans could be in line to overthrow Samaje Perine on the depth chart, especially if he improves as a pass protector. The Bengals made some significant upgrades on their offensive line this offseason with the additions of La'el Collins, Alex Cappa, and Ted Karras. If Evans can beat out Perine for the No. 2 role in training camp, he could become a top 12 starting RB in all formats should Mixon miss any time in Cincinnati's explosive offense. While his ADP of 202 suggests he is mostly going undrafted in all formats, Evans is one late-round RB worth keeping an eye on all summer.
