Brandon Drury Clear Third Base Option For Yankees
7 years agoFollowing their acquisition of Brandon Drury from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-team trade, the New York Yankees find themselves with a terrific option to fill their need at third base. The infielder, who has experience at second and third base, has played two full seasons in the majors following a brief stint in 2015. Last season, in 135 games, he hit .267 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI. While Drury had primarily been a second baseman with the Diamondbacks, he came up through the minor leagues as a third baseman and has repeatedly seen action there in the bigs. With the Yankees, he immediately becomes the favorite to be the club’s starting third baseman on Opening Day. Additionally, his flexibility with experience at second base helps as well in case of injury. His bat, however, may be a concern, as he dipped significantly following the All-Star break last season, hitting just .238. Last season, he struck out more and walked less than he did in 2016. The Yankees will bank on Drury getting through his woes with consistent playing time and he should be considered later in the draft as a two-position player.
