Chris Devenski Is An Elite Setup Man Heading Into 2018
7 years agoHouston Astros setup man Chris Devenski was a workhorse out of the bullpen last season. He appeared in 62 games, striking out 100 hitters while pitching 80 2/3 innings. He posted a 2.68 ERA with an 8-5 record and his 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings led the team. Devenski experience a few bumps, blowing six saves and allowed a few more home runs (11) than he probably would have liked. But the Astros again are in line to contend so Devenski should get plenty of work. There also is the possibility that Devenski would be first in line to close games if Ken Giles struggles out of the gate. Devenski is highly unlikely to match his win total of eight in 2018 but will continue to post strong strikeout totals and maybe a few saves along the way. Devenski could find his way onto the fringe of some fantasy teams in 2018 but his potential value will ultimately be limited.
