Chase Claypool 2021 Outlook: Big WR is Big Breakout Candidate
4 years agoPittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool will head into his second season with lofty expectations. The 22-year-old burst onto the scene in 2020, catching 62 passes for 873 yards and tied for the team lead with nine receiving touchdowns. Claypool racked up 109 targets and recorded eight games with eight-plus targets. The talented receiver brings an excellent blend of speed, size, and vertical ability to win 50/50 balls from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. So what can Claypool do for an encore? The sky could be the limit. The receiver does need to refine his route-running but the good news for fantasy teams is that the Steelers go out of their way to get the ball into Claypool's hands. The second-year receiver registered two rushing touchdowns on jet sweeps last season and is a top option for the Steelers in the red zone, registering 13 red-zone targets despite just a 62% snap share. Claypool should present a high touchdown floor and will have an excellent chance at 1,000 receiving yards after averaging 14.08 yards per catch last season. Claypool may be slightly overvalued in upcoming rankings but has the potential to be a strong WR2 choice for the 2021 season.
