Charlie Morton's Numbers Could Suffer Slight Regression
7 years agoHouston Astros right-hander Charlie Morton emerged as one of many postseason heroes en route to the World Series Championship in 2017. Morton in the regular season went 14-7 in only 146 2/3 innings pitched, posting a 3.67 ERA and striking out 163. Morton finished the season strong, going 8-4 with a 3.47 ERA after the All-Star break and then allowing only two runs in 10 1/.3 innings during two starts in the World Series. Morton got hot at the right time and now represents one of the better number five pitchers in the game heading into 2018. Control issues have been a bug-a-boo for Morton at times in his career, preventing him from pitching deep into games. He also is in line for a slight spike with the 1.19 WHIP he posted in 2017, by far his career best. Morton may not replicate his 2017 production but plays on one of the best teams in the game. He will be a nice bench piece for many fantasy teams and is a solid bet to win another 10-plus games this season.
