Charlie Blackmon 2019 Outlook: Is He Still A Top-10 Talent?
6 years agoThe 2018 season probably feels like a disappointment for Charlie Blackmon owners, but, he was still a solid fantasy asset. He didn’t quite return his top-10 ADP in value, posting season lows since 2015 in several categories, including hits, doubles, RBI, average, slugging and on-base percentage. With that being said, Blackmon was still an All-Star and finished as a top-30 player in Roto 5x5 leagues. Fantasy owners will need to be careful and not overvalue Blackmon heading into 2019. The excitement of Rockies players being in Coors Field for half of their games is always enticing come draft day. The 32-year-old doesn’t have many days ahead of providing value in all five categories, and if the Rockies decide to move on at any point in time, you must wonder whether he could produce the same numbers. Blackmon hit a robust .334 with an OBP of .390 at home last season but only hit .249 with an OBP of .329 when away from Coors Field. The biggest positive is that Blackmon had nearly identical home run totals regardless of venue. Even though Blackmon will offer another solid season in 2019, don’t get trapped into buying Coors Field numbers. Only buy Blackmon if he falls past the third round in 2019.
