Cesar Hernandez A Decent Middle Infielder
7 years agoFor a second consecutive season, Cesar Hernandez was a rock in the Philadelphia Phillies infield. The 27-year-old once again approached a .300 batting average, posting a second consecutive .294 number while also dropping his K% for a third consecutive year. Additionally, he once again posted a stolen bases total in the teens, this time swiping 15. While there are some infield prospects the Phillies would like to expose to major league action, Hernandez is simply playing too well to remove him from a starting spot and his leadoff position in the lineup. Looking ahead, the Venezuelan native could take another leap forward and actually reach the .300 mark for a full season. This was, perhaps hinted at, with his second half last season, as he hit .308 over the final 70 games. Alongside this comes the aforementioned stolen bases and even more runs scored from the leadoff spot as the Phillies gain Carlos Santana’s bat while seeing Rhys Hoskins for a full year. The veteran, heading for his sixth season, should be considered with a late pick.
