7 months agoThe St. Louis Cardinals are working to finalize a new five-year deal that would begin next season for first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, a source confirmed to MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal on Thursday. ESPN's Jeff Passan and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reported the deal will be worth around $130 million and is expected to be finalized this weekend. It would be the largest contract in franchise history. After trading for Goldy in the winter, the Cardinals have decided to lock him up long term before he even took an official at-bat with them. The 31-year-old will make $14.5 million this year to finish his six-year, $46.5 million deal he signed with Arizona in 2013. The first baseman has been an All-Star in six straight seasons and hit .290/.389/.533 with 33 home runs and 83 RBI for the D-Backs in 2018. Goldschmidt is RotoBaller's No. 2 fantasy first baseman and No. 21 overall.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
