Cam Bedrosian Has The Highest Upside In Angels Bullpen
7 years agoLos Angeles Angels relief pitcher Cam Bedrosian dealt with a groin injury that stunted his 2017 season, so he will likely not start the 2018 season as the closer in Los Angeles. That being said, Bedrosian is easily the best option as closer for the Angels and will likely get the job from Jim Johnson. Bedrosian was 2-0 with a 1.12 ERA in 2016, striking out 51 batters in 40 1/3 innings, but took a step back in 2017 with a 4.43 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings. He was not able to get hold of the closer's job in Los Angeles (although he had six saves in 2017) and saw most of his fantasy value disappear. Bedrosian saw his ground ball rate drop from 49.5% in 2016 to just 42.9% last season, his LOB% drop from 87.4% to 62.8%, and his FIP was 3.38 because of his unluckiness. He also walked more batters (seeing his BB% go up a tick from 8.6% to 9%) and his hard hit ball rate went from 29.5% to 32.5%. The most alarming statistic for Bedrosian was a jump in fly ball percentage from 29.5% to 40.3% year over year, which also led to his HR/FB% go from 3.6% to 10.4%. If Bedrosian can work on his fly ball rate and induce more ground balls, he is likely to be the closer for the Angels for the majority of the season.
