6/19:To win the U.S. Open is a major accomplishment, but to successfully defend it is a whole different ball game. Brooks Koepka showed that it takes guts and pure determination to go back-to-back, especially after his poor start on Thursday where he started his title defense with a dismal five-over 75. Koepka kept himself in contention during the next two rounds by carding a four-under 66 on Friday, and despite the poor course conditions on Saturday, he still managed to shoot a two-over 72 to get him into the second to last pairing on Sunday. Sunday saw Koepka record a two-under 68 to finish one shot ahead of Tommy Fleetwood, who shot a final-round 63 and become the first person since Curtis Strange to successfully defend the U.S. Open. En route to his historic victory, Koepka led in both strokes gained around the green and strokes gained total. This week, the two-time U.S. Open champion will head to the Travelers Championship, where he finished T9 in 2016. With Koepka’s win at the U.S. Open, he has jumped to No. 4 in the Official World Golf Rankings and has a scoring average of 69.689.--Todd Dorsa - RotoBaller
