Brendan Rodgers 2021 Outlook: Time is Running Out for Injury-Prone Prospect
4 years agoThe oft-injured Rodgers is a young player that might benefit from a change of scenery but the trade of third baseman Nolan Arenado likely opens up some breathing room for the infield prospect to have one more shot at playing every day in Colorado. Rodgers has shown the ability to hit for both average and power in the minors but injuries and inconsistent playing time have played havoc with his MLB opportunities. He's struggled to produce a consistent launch angle while playing at the MLB level but that could also have something to do with injuries — specifically repeated shoulder issues. Rodgers will enter 2021 as a wild card — a player with pedigree who has had strong results at times and once looked like a potential .300 hitter with 25+ homer skills — but the repeated shoulder issues cast doubt on his future. He's also dealt with a hamstring issue this spring which has cost him important development time. With an ADP nearing 383, fantasy managers are losing faith in Rodgers although he may become more attractive as the Rockies' infield picture becomes clearer as we approach spring training. If he wins an everyday gig somewhere in the infield, he deserves a late-round flyer. He should also remain on your radar in dynasty leagues — at least as long as he's in a Colorado uniform.
