Arodys Vizcaino Remains The Closer
7 years agoArodys Vizcaino took over the closer responsibilities and had more statistical success than he did as a setup man. In the ninth inning, Vizcaino had a 1.96 earned run average with a strikeout to base on balls of 5.0. In the eighth inning, he only had a 3.86 ERA with a 2.36 K/BB. Vizcaino did have his problems against left-handed batters. He allowed 54.5% fly-balls, unlike 37.3% against right-handers. Vizcaino allowed a .215 average against left-handed hitters, but also a concerning weighted on-base average of .321. Also, he gave up 15.5% BB against left-handers as well. Vizcaino did have his bright spots. He had a career bests in first pitch strike percentage (59.6) and swinging strike percentage (14.7); he added an excellent 27.2% strikeouts. He also had a 35.2% outside the zone swing percentage. However, if the hitters make adjustments and take less swings at pitches outside the zone, it will force Vizcaino to pitch more inside the zone than he did, which was below league average (42.9%). Vizcaino will be drafted near round 13. If you own him in your dynasty leagues, keep an eye on him and his backup. If Vizcaino continues to have issues against left-handed batters and his BB/9 rises again, it would be time to get value in a trade.
