Anthony Miller Could Lead Rookies In Receptions
6 years agoChicago Bears rookie wide receiver Anthony Miller joins a completely revamped offense heading into the 2018 season. The Memphis product was taken 19th in the second round and joins a new group of weapons for quarterback Mitch Trubisky and head coach Matt Nagy's offense. The 5'11" receiver absolutely dominated the competition the final two years of college, racking up 191 receptions, 2,896 receivings yards and 32 receiving touchdowns. Miller is a highly-motivated competitor who has drawn comparisons, albeit overzealous, to Antonio Brown at times. He has an incredibly high motor and his playing style profiles as a "chip on the shoulder" mentality when he is on the field.
Reports out of the Bears off-season program already are producing positive reviews of Miller's work ethic and he has a legitimate shot at earning a starting role by the time the season starts. Skeptics of Miller's potential point to his lack of size and ideal speed but Nagy's offense emphasizes getting the ball out of Trubisky's hand quickly and into the hands of play-makers. This could benefit a rookie like Miller early on and his fantasy value could rise fast, especially in PPR-leagues.
It is always hard to justify taking a rookie receiver high in fantasy drafts and Miller's potential is not a sure thing. But he is certainly a player to monitor in the preseason and could play an earlier than expected role for the Bears in 2018. Miller may not deserve to be taken on draft day right now but could help a fantasy roster later in the season. The rookie receiver could easily catch 50-plus balls this season and rack up 600-800 receiving yards but may not see the type of red zone targets that will make him a must-add in all fantasy formats for the 2018 season.
