Alejandro Kirk 2021 Fantasy Outlook: Waiting In The Wings In Toronto
4 years agoDanny Jansen's hold on the starting catcher role in Toronto could be on thin ice with Alejandro Kirk waiting in the wings. Kirk might need a bit more seasoning, as he skipped a few levels in the minors on his way to the big club. With the Blue Jays primed for a run at the American League East division this year, if Jansen struggles, Kirk could be back in the majors for good in 2021. The bat tool is real -- ATC projects Kirk for nine home runs in 300 at-bats, coupled with a robust .272 batting average. He's also off to a very strong start this spring but he's in competition with Reese McGuire, who is out of minor-league options and is a stronger defensive catcher. Grab Kirk as a handcuff if you own Jansen in a draft-and-hold league. If he makes the major league roster out of spring training, he's an instant pickup. If not, keep a close eye on his minor league progress early on in 2021.
