Aledmys Diaz Hopes For Playing Time In Toronto
7 years agoRight now, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Aledmys Diaz won’t occupy a starting role to start the season. However, Diaz can play multiple infield positions, and given the track record of some Blue Jays infielders, Diaz will likely be on the field quite a bit. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and second baseman Devon Travis are unfortunately two of the more injury prone players in fantasy, and Diaz will be right there to pick things up if and when they falter (although currently, infielder Yangervis Solarte is currently listed as Travis’ backup on the Jays’ depth chart). Traded from the St. Louis Cardinals in December, Diaz took a step back in his second Major League season in 2017, but wasn’t terrible with a .259/.290/.392 slash line with seven home runs and four stolen bases across 301 plate appearances. Only a year removed from a .300/.369/.510 line with 17 home runs across 460 plate appearances, there’s a possibility Diaz becomes very fantasy relevant in the event he sees consistent playing time.
