Aidan O'Connell 2024 Outlook: Set to Compete for Raiders Starting QB
6 months agoLas Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell was thrust into full-time duty as a rookie in 2023 after owner Mark Davis abruptly fired GM Dave Ziegler and HC Josh McDaniels in the middle of the season. Antonio Pierce was named interim HC and promoted O'Connell to the team's starting QB in favor of Jimmy Garoppolo. The Raiders went 5-5 over that span with O'Connell throwing for 2,218 yards with 12 TDs and 7 INTs. He wasn't overly great for fantasy purposes, averaging just 12.7 fantasy PPG in his 10 starts, but O'Connell had a QB3 finish in Week 14 after throwing for 248 yards and 4 TDs in a 63-21 win. The Raiders signed QB Gardner Minshew to a 2-year / $25 million contract this offseason, but now full-time HC Antonio Pierce has yet to name a starting QB for 2024. O'Connell offers little to no rushing upside for fantasy and doesn't have much value in 1QB leagues, but in Superflex formats, he deserves your attention simply due to supply and demand.
