Aaron Altherr Should Be Kept On Waivers
7 years agoIt’s a whole new world for Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr in 2018. Although injuries shortened his season to just 107 games in 2017, the 27-year-old hit .271 with 19 home runs, both solid numbers considering his abbreviated campaign. If there are skeptics about Altherr’s numbers and whether they can be replicated, they have significant points to back up those arguments. After all, his HR/FB ratio was at 18.8 percent, which may be argued to mean the home run total might not be sustained. With all these factors in play, perhaps the most noteworthy factor could be playing time. The Phillies are expected to feature Rhys Hoskins, Odubel Herrera and Nick Williams on the roster, all outfielders who figure to be ahead of Altherr. This, along with his injury history, doesn’t bode well for his fantasy status. Those who are considering Altherr as a late-round outfield option may want to hold off, with his role perhaps to be a waiver wire option as the season continues.
