A.J. Ramos Should See Save Opportunities For Mets
7 years agoWhen the New York Mets acquired reliever A.J. Ramos from the Miami Marlins last season, it was assumed that he would close until normal ninth-inning man Jeurys Familia returned from injury. While that was the case in 2017, it may not be the case in 2018. New Mets Manager Mickey Callaway has hinted that there might not be a set closer for the Amazins’ next season, opting instead to handle it based on the situation at hand. This could be great news for Ramos owners in leagues that count holds plus saves as a category, as any extra chances he gets will boost his value. We wouldn’t rely on that statement too much right now though, especially with how things can change during the regular season, but it’s worth monitoring. Ramos is coming off a 2017 that saw him perform as his normal erratic self, pitching to a 3.99 ERA, career-worst 1.41 WHIP, 1.05 K/9, and 1.07 BB/9.
