A.J. Green 2021 Outlook: The Tank is Empty
4 years agoA.J. Green should be brought up on larceny charges for his current contract. The Cardinals gave Green a one-year deal with $6 million guaranteed. Green cannot play football anymore. It's over. He's one of the best WRs of this generation and would get my vote for the Hall of Fame, but it's 2021 and he has no business on a professional football team. Green returned last year after missing the second half of the 2018 season and all of the 2019 season and looked every bit like a 32-year-old injury ravaged wide receiver. It seems unfathomable, but Green had 104 targets last season. He managed to turn those into 47 receptions for 523 yards and two touchdowns. For context, in 2016, back when Green was still good at football, he was targeted 100 times in just 10 games played. He turned those 100 targets into 66 receptions for 964 yards and four touchdowns. It's really hard to put into context how terrible Green was in 2020. He posted WR3 or better numbers just three times all season. He somehow had five games with zero receptions, including one where he played 100% of the snaps. Now, Green is in Arizona where he will be competing with DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk, Rondale Moore, and Andy Isabella for targets. Green should rarely see the field because he's a complete waste of a roster spot, but we know he will anyway. As he showed in 2020, it doesn't matter because he's not catching much thrown his way. Green does not belong on any roster in any league of any size.
