A.J. Brown 2019 Player Outlook: The New WR1 in Town
6 years agoThe Titans drafted A.J. Brown in the second round of the 2019 draft to bolster a below-average wide receiver corps. Although they had spent a top-10 pick in 2017 on Corey Davis and recently signed slot-man Adam Humphries, they still had a need at the position. Brown is a versatile WR who primarily played as a big slot in Ole Miss, but showed the ability to play outside at a high level after D.K. Metcalf went down in 2018. Brown is a starter from day-one but faces a fantasy challenge that is not easy to solve, quarterback play. There are still plenty of question marks surrounding Marcus Mariota's ability to support fantasy viable WRs, but that might just be a matter of staying healthy for a full season. The good news is that his backup in 2019, Ryan Tannehill, is competent enough to keep the offense afloat if anything were to pop up. Nevertheless, Brown is a risky fantasy pick this season given the team circumstances. Their new offensive coordinator has never held that position at any level before, therefore we have no clue what the 2019 Titans are going to be. Brown is fine as a flyer pick and should end up as the best WR in the room, but it might not matter if the volume/quality is not there.
