Recent Update

2/24:Yasmani Grandal had a breakout season at the plate last year, but the switch-hitting catcher remained limited by his struggles swinging from the right side against lefty pitching. In 2016, he had an .824 OPS against right-handed pitching but only got 96 plate appearances against lefties, where he had a .780 OPS. It's not an extreme split, but it was enough for the Dodgers to platoon Grandal with veteran righty-hitting catchers throughout last season, and this year his backup, Austin Barnes, looks to snag some of those at-bats against lefties as well. Grandal says he battled through some injuries to his shoulder and his knee that affected his right-handed swing last season, and he's been working this winter to refine it. The Dodgers could certainly use Grandal's powerful bat and on-base percentage skills on a more regular basis if he can show he's back to form from the right side. Overall, he slashed .228/.339/.477 with 27 long balls in 2016.--Kelly Terbest - RotoBaller
