ANALYSIS: Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard was the starter for the Bengals last week and posted 130 total yards on 17 touches. Bernard grabbed six passes for 68 yards and carried the ball 11 times for 62 yards in the Bengals' 33-7 loss to Chicago, easily making him the offensive star for Cincinnati. He has averaged well over five yards per touch over the last three games, where he has posted 253 total yards, and his 306 yards on 27 catches this season makes him very valuable in PPR leagues.

The health of starting running back Joe Mixon will make Bernard's value fluctuate, but remember that Mixon is only averaging 3.3 yards per carry this season. He did have a 114 yard effort against the Browns in Week 12, and has a touchdown in three of his last five games played, but Bernard's hot streak may cut into Mixon's playing time if healthy. Mixon is still in the concussion protocol and it looks like Bernard will get another start in Week 15.

This week is not the week to start Bernard, as he is facing a Vikings' team that is the second-best against the run, but there are greater opportunities if Mixon continues to sit. The Bengals play the Lions in Week 16 and Detroit has the third-worst defense against the run, making Bernard worth holding onto. If you are in a bind, Bernard will at least get the touches to make him an RB3 this week, but he has strong RB2 potential for Week 16 if Mixon continues to sit.
