Tuesday features a nine-game evening slate with a spotlight on games like Montreal and Carolina, New York, and Edmonton, plus even Detroit and San Jose.
Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 12/31/19. DFS Forwards to Consider
Nathan MacKinnon - C, COL vs DAL (FD - $8,600, DK - $7,900)
A couple of days off has likely helped the Colorado offense who was shut down mostly against Dallas on Saturday. The good news is that the Avalanche come home to face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday evening. MacKinnon has 56 points in 39 games this season and has 11 points in his last ten games with 40 shots on net. One of the bigger factors heading into tonight is the last time these teams faced off in Colorado. The all-world center racked up two goals and two assists on six shots in an easy Colorado victory. MacKinnon averages 5.4 shots per game at home and has 11 goals in 18 games there.
Jonathan Huberdeau - W, FLA vs CLB (FD - $7,500, DK - $6,300)
The winger buoys the Florida attack and has a prime matchup against what would be a third-string goaltender in most cases due to the Joonas Korpisalo injury. Huberdeau has 16 points in his last six games and has 5+ shots in two of his previous three contests. Columbus may be a bit stingy when it comes to allowing shots but again more scoring chances could result from having a lesser goalie in net. Columbus has 10+ players out due to injury. These losses add up eventually even when playing at home.
Also, Consider:
- Jack Eichel, Aleksander Barkov, and especially Mika Zibanejad are excellent plays on Tuesday night.
- Artemi Panarin, Brendan Gallagher, and Nikita Kucherov are nice options on Tuesday from the wing position.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Dougie Hamilton - D, CAR vs MTL (FD - $6,300, DK - $6,700)
Hamilton keeps bombing away when it comes to shots as he has fired 4.4 a game over his previous ten contests. He has eight points in his last nine games and faces a Montreal team that allows the third-most DFS points to defensemen. This is like getting an early 2020 present as the Canadiens defensively have been sieve-like on the road and their penalty kill has been in the bottom five all year long. Montreal also yields the second-most unblocked shot attempts in the league. This is a recipe that sets up well for Carolina stacks on Tuesday.
Ian Cole - D, COL vs WPG (FD - $3,700, DK - $3,700)
Cole becomes a plug and play because of his value. He has four points in his last four games and that has been paramount to his success. His peripherals have suffered a bit but his floor and price can be easily attainable. This value option can be upgraded to Ryan Graves on FanDuel for $100 more or kept as Cole normally averages nearly 2.5 blocks per game along with almost two shots a contest on the net. Again, it is that typical floor that attracts DFS players to Cole in the first place.
Also, Consider:
- Simply Oskar Klefbom has to be considered against the Rangers but so does Tony DeAngelo against a slumping Oilers team that has lost eight out of ten.
- Brent Burns is a nice GPP play against an awful Red Wings defense. Again, think teams that allow lots of points per game. Filip Hronek would be a good, contrarian option on Tuesday as San Jose will give up some goals as well.
DFS Goalie to Consider
Sergei Bobrovsky - G, FLA vs CLB (FD - $7,400, DK - $7,800)
The idea was to look at goaltender who has an easy matchup. Bobrovsky is facing his former team in the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus also gives up the second-highest amount of DFS points per game to goaltenders. Columbus is without its starting goaltender and Florida will likely go up against a netminder who is winless in eight games this season. Bobrovsky carries risk as he has yielded 14 goals in his last three starts but Florida gives up over 34 shots per game in his starts. The shot volume will help ease the pain from giving up more goals than usual.
Also, Consider:
- The other good GPP choice on Tuesday might be Carter Hart against Los Angeles as other confirmations are awaiting. Jordan Binnington could be worth a look against Arizona who expects to shoot more on the net after blowing a 2-0 lead over the weekend.
