Chiefs and 49ers Get Ready to Rock the Hard Rock

Well football fans, it's come down to one game to decide the NFL Champion. For the first time in four years, the AFC representative will not be the New England Patriots. With Brady and company out of the way in the divisional round, the Kansas City Chiefs took advantage of the opportunity to earn their franchise's third trip to the ultimate game in professional football.

Their opponent might be somewhat of a surprise to anyone outside of the California Bay Area, especially preseason oddsmakers. When the season began, most betting lines pointed to as many as eight teams from the NFC alone having a better chance of making to Miami in February.

However, the San Francisco 49ers bucked their preseason snub to win the NFC Championship and punch their ticket to Super Bowl LIV. As we prepare for the notoriously biggest sports betting day around the world, here's our take on a Super Bowl LIV betting preview.

Where to Bet?

This year's big game will offer the largest number of states in the US where you can legally place a bet. The number of legislations that launched sportsbooks in 2019 more than doubled the number of US states where you can place a legal sports bet.

Presently, there are 11 states that have officially launched sports betting and two other states with specific betting venues. Oregon and New Mexico both allow betting under Class III tribal gaming regulations. In Oregon, you can also bet online through the state lottery.

The 11 states where you can place a bet on the upcoming Super Bowl are Nevada, (of course), Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, New York, Rhode Island, Arkansas and the District of Columbia.

Be sure to check the location of a legal sportsbook before placing a bet. In some states, such as Indiana and New Jersey, you can also make a bet online if you're inside the state borders. You can also bet using a mobile device in Montana.  For those of you in upstate New York, there are a number of legal physical sportsbooks.  If you are near one of the physical sportsbooks, you can also be on your mobile phone.

Now that we've told you where you can make a Super Bowl bet, let's talk about what we think are some fun and intriguing game day bets.

What to Bet?

The Super Bowl is annually one of the biggest days for betting, if not the biggest. Rarely is there a sporting event that rivals the total number of betting slips placed on the NFL's title game.

Bettors can lay down a wager on anything from who will win the coin toss to the actual point spread. Here's some insight on some very intriguing Super Bowl bets that you might find interesting.

Length of the National Anthem – Why not get things started right out of the tunnel, so to speak? Odds, usually posted as an over/under number, for the National Anthem are a fun Super Bowl prop bet. The last four anthem singers all warbled for over two-minutes.

The average length of a Super Bowl anthem has been just under the two-minute wire. It might be a safe bet that Demi Lovato's first vocal performance in over a year is going to surpass that mark.

The Coin Flip – Another way to kick the game off with a true betting landmark is to bet which team will win the coin toss. There's nothing like a wager on heads vs. tails to start your Super Bowl betting.

An interesting tidbit heading into Super Bowl LIV is the fact that the last five coin toss winners have ended up losing the game. Seattle was the last Super Bowl Champion, who also got the flip of a coin correct.

Team to Score First – The way Kansas City and San Francisco put up points during their respective conference championship games, the coin toss might be a double-down on who puts the first points on the board.

The Chiefs gave up the first 10 points to Tennessee on Sunday, but the 49ers hammered out 27 straight points before the Packers got on the board. While this bet seems to be somewhat superfluous, it has had a huge impact on game winner bets and the point spread.

The team who scores first in the Super Bowl has ended up with more points 35 times. Nearly half of these 17 eventual losing teams, lost by less than a touchdown. So, having a hunch on who will put the first points on the board in Super Bowl LIV could work in your favor.

The Point Spread – Now let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Oddsmakers certainly have their eye on a close Super Bowl this year. The opening FanDuel point spread is 1.5 in favor of Kansas City.

This is the closest opening spread since the Seattle vs. New England pick `em opening line in 2015. A point spread this close lends itself to picking a game winner as opposed to trying to jump on the underdog with the points.

Someone is probably going to buck recent ATS trends. KC has won their past seven games against the spread, while the 49ers have failed to cover only twice during that same stretch. Something has to give in Miami.

The Over/Under – Like the point spread, this another bread-and-butter bet for a football fanatic. At first glance, the 52.5 opening over/under looks juicy. Both the Chiefs and 49ers are clicking at right around 30 points per game during their run to the Super Bowl.

However, both defenses are giving up right about 20 points per contest over that same span. Like the point spread number, it appears something has to give. One interesting point is that during KC's point spread run, their games have fallen under in four of those seven.

One thing that is a pretty safe bet is that Kansas City and San Francisco are going to rock the Hard Rock in Miami in a couple of weeks. How long Demi sings, or which side the coin lands are cute prop bets.

However, the point spread and over/under lines point to a thriller on the Atlantic Seashore. Don't forget to get your bets in early if you live in one of the lucky states with legal sports betting.
